AcneFree 24 Hour Acne Clearing System Review

AcneFree 24 Hour Acne Clearing System is an over-the-counter (OTC) three-step acne treatment kit. It's a great choice if you're looking for a complete skin care kit (foaming cleanser, astringent toner, and treatment lotion) in one box for one price.

Like all OTC acne products, this one is best for treating mild acne. If your acne is more severe, you'll need a prescription acne medication to get breakouts under control.

AcneFree also has a similar kit with a lower percentage of benzoyl peroxide (AcneFree Sensitive) and a four-step kit that includes a retinol lotion (AcneFree Severe).

Where You Can Buy It

You can find this skincare kit at most drug stores and big box stores, like Target and Walmart. Compare prices to find the best price in your area.

  • The kit eliminates guesswork when choosing OTC acne products—everything you need is in the box.
  • It's inexpensive when compared to other complete acne skin care kits.
  • You can easily find it at drug and retail stores.

  • The kit doesn't contain a moisturizing product, so you’ll need a separate product if your skin feels dry (make sure you choose an oil-free moisturizer).
  • The bottles' tiny holes make dispensing products a chore.

If you're looking for a complete acne treatment kit, you aren't limited to Proactiv. AcneFree Acne Clearing System fits the bill nicely. This kit comes with nearly everything you need to care for your acne-prone skin. Plus, because it’s available at your local drug or retail store, there are no shipping charges.

All in all, AcneFree makes a nice skincare line. The active ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, a proven acne medication that is found in both OTC products and prescription treatments alike.

The package says AcneFree Purifying Cleanser contains “microbeads” (small granules used to exfoliate the skin). We didn’t notice any but liked the cleanser anyway. It foams up well and rinses away easily. The smell is light and neutral, so both men and women should be pleased with it.

The Renewing Toner leaves the skin feeling a bit sticky, at least until it’s completely dry. Thanks to its high alcohol content, those with less oily or sensitive skin may find the toner to drying. Oily skinned folks will like its astringent quality.

Although we first considered AcneFree Repair Lotion to take the place of a moisturizer, it is more a treatment lotion. It doesn’t moisturize the skin at all. To get around this problem, you can apply a gentle moisturizer over the top of the Repair Lotion.

One annoying issue is the size of the dispensing holes on all three products—they’re tiny! You have to squeeze hard to get anything, especially tough with the cleanser bottle and damp hands. On the flip side, though, it makes it difficult to use too much product so you’ll probably save money in the long run.

And while the name says it's a "24-hour" acne clearing system, it doesn't mean acne will be gone in 24 hours. Instead, they're using it to infer that the medication works all day and all night.

Bottom Line

For someone looking for reasonably priced acne skin care, without the guesswork of putting together your own regimen, AcneFree 24 Hour Acne Clearing System is a solid choice.
