David R. Watt



David R. Watt, MD, is a former Medical Review Board Member with Verywell. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He specializes in retina surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists and the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Watt served on the staff of the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1990 to 2004.


Dr. Watt received his BA from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from Northwestern University. He completed an internal medicine internship and an ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Virginia. He also completed a retina surgery fellowship at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. Dr. Watt founded Retina Associates in Annapolis, Maryland in 1990 and joined the Retina Group of Washington in 2019 following a practice merger. He is also an avid tennis player and skier and he enjoys boating on the Chesapeake Bay.
