As a physician-scientist, my career has been devoted to bridging the gap between basic science and medicine. I learn from my patients constantly. I am passionate about becoming a partner in their path towards health and healing by distilling information in ways they can understand.
Isabel Casimiro, MD, PhD, is an Endocrinologist at the University of Chicago. She is a physician-scientist in molecular biology as it relates to type 2 diabetes and adipose tissue dysfunction. Her research findings have been published in several scientific and medical journals, including Cell Metabolism and the Journal of the Endocrine Society. She has been involved in academic leadership throughout her training, serving on graduate and medical school program committees. Dr. Casimiro has led efforts towards recruiting and retaining underrepresented minorities in medicine as a resident. She is board certified in internal medicine. Her endocrinology subspecialty interests include diabetes, lipid disorders, obesity, and transgender medicine.
Dr. Casimiro obtained her Bachelor's degree from California State University-Chico and her Master's degree from the San Francisco State University. She received a PhD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and her MD from the University of Washington. She completed internal medicine residency and endocrinology training through the Physician Scientist Development Program (PSDP) at the University of Chicago, where she is currently an Instructor.
