As a freelance writer, Kathi has experience writing both reported features and essays for national publications on the topics of healthcare, advocacy, and education. The bulk of her work centers on parenting, education, health, and social justice. Kathi has covered topics such as pregnancy and trauma, abortion, PPD, healthcare policy, Covid-19, school shootings, LGBTQ issues, and mental health.
Kathi's work has been featured in Healthline, the New York Times, Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Vice, Shondaland, Talk Poverty, CNN, Business Insider, and dozens of others. In addition, she is a parenting columnist for Dame Magazine.
Kathi learned the journalism ropes by immersion, writing feature stories for a regional news publication, and through the mentorship and support of professional writing groups. Since then, Kathi has gone on to support emerging writers through private consultation and teaching about freelance writing through the Southwest Michigan Second Wave Community Correspondent Academy. In addition, Kathi has also enjoyed participating in collaborative discussions with journalists traveling through Colleagues International.
