9 Places to Look Online for a Medical Job

Job boards are a great tool to find out who is hiring and where the jobs are in healthcare. However, they should be utilized in combination with other search methods for optimum success. Job boards are a numbers game—the response rate can be pretty low, especially if you don't invest some time into applying for multiple jobs. However, in the medical field, if you possess the education and training required, you should get a lot of replies, calls, and emails, due to the shortages in many clinical workforce areas and specialties.

There are far too many healthcare job sites to list them all, but below are a few of what seem to be the largest and most comprehensive medical job boards online. Many of these job boards have been in business for many years. Also, most of these websites go beyond job listings, offering a number of valuable career resources, articles, and tips for healthcare job seekers.

These two sites, HealthECareers and Medhunters, recently merged into one. Here you will find listings in Healthcare Administration, Operations, Allied Health, Biotechnology, Dental, Nursing, Pharmaceutical, and Physician or Doctor Specialties

MD Jobsite

As the name would imply, MD Jobsite offers job postings only for physicians, however, it covers all physician specialties and some advanced practice provider openings as well.

New England Journal of Medicine Career Site

The New England Journal of Medicine hosts its own comprehensive career center, complete with physician and advanced provider job postings, apply online feature, and a variety of jobs represented by direct employers as well as search firms.

In addition, the NEJM career center also includes a host of informative articles, career advice and job search tips geared specifically towards physicians and advanced practice providers.

Medzilla primarily offers job listings in the pharmaceutical, biotech, and science sectors of healthcare.

PracticeLink focuses on the physician market. However, it does have options to post a CV or search jobs for other clinical roles such as nursing, allied health, or administrative and non-clinical roles. Also, this is one of the few sites which does not allow recruiting firms to access the site. Only direct employers (hospitals, medical clinics, practices, etc.) are allowed to sign on and search candidates.

Healthcare JobSite

Healthcare Job Site is a comprehensive national online job board including a wide variety of over a half million (according to the site) nursing and allied health careers.

A division of AMN Healthcare, NursingJobs.com offers a national database of nursing jobs as well in a variety of medical specialties. The site specializes in RN jobs, including permanent, travel, and PRN opportunities.

Nurse.com is a comprehensive career center for nurses across the country. It offers a wealth of career resources in addition to job postings for all types of nurses.

Medical Professional Association Career Sites

Just about every professional society now has a career section on its website. There are too many to list here, but whether you are a nurse, a physician, or a tech, in any type of medical specialty, your professional association should have jobs for you on its website. One example is the NAPR website, which is the National Association of Physician Recruiters. The organization hosts a job bank of national job opportunities for physicians nationwide.
