Melissa Porrey is a licensed mental health professional with over a decade of experience providing counseling in healthcare and nonprofit settings. She has specialized training in grief and trauma work, and her experience includes military bereavement counseling and case management, inpatient and post-discharge counseling for survivors of traumatic injury, and mental health program management and training to build resilience in service members, veterans, and humanitarian workers.
Melissa presents regularly on the topics of stress, trauma, and secondary traumatic stress, and she has co-authored several publications in the Journal of Surgical Education.
Melissa also holds a degree in Journalism from the Pennsylvania State University and has been a contributing writer and editor in the mental health space for several years.
Melissa holds a Master of Education and Human Development degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the Pennsylvania State University. She is a licensed professional counselor in Washington, DC, and she is a nationally board-certified counselor.
