Kid-Approved Peanut-Free and Nut-Free Valentine's Day Candy

Valentine's Day Treats Safe for Peanut- and Nut-Free Schools

Many schools do not allow peanuts or nuts in the classroom these days due to the increase in severe allergies among schoolchildren. Therefore, if you want to bring in treats for Valentine's Day, you'll need to find some that are safe for kids with peanut and nut allergies.

As you probably realize, that's not easy to do: a stroll down the candy aisles before Valentine's Day will reveal innumerable candies that contain peanuts and nuts, and not many that would be specifically safe for a child with allergies.

Therefore, finding allergy-safe candy for Valentine's Day will take a little planning. Fortunately, there are some candy makers that specialize in allergy-safe confections for both children and adults.

Here is a list of inexpensive, allergy-friendly, kid-approved candy that can be handed out with Valentine's Day cards or served as treats for the class Valentine's Day party.

Glee Gum Mini Packs

Glee Gum makes natural chewing gum from chicle, a natural tree sap harvested sustainably from the rainforests of Central America. According to the company, using chicle for gum actually helps to preserve the rain forests, since it means the trees there have more value than they would if they're simply chopped down for lumber. Glee Gum is free of the Big Eight allergens (it's produced in a facility that uses soy, but not tree nuts or peanuts), and is also gluten-free and non-GMO.

My family loves Yummy Earth lollipops, which come in a wide variety of flavors (I wouldn't buy the selection of Hot Chili Pops for the classroom, though!). If you want red lollipops for Valentine's Day, you can choose Very Very Cherry or Pomegranate Pucker. Otherwise, you may just want to get a big bag of mixed flavors for fun. All Yummy Earth candies are organic, vegan, and free of nuts, soy, wheat, eggs, peanuts, gluten, dairy, corn syrup, and artificial flavors, and they're made in dedicated nut-free and peanut-free facilities.

Yummy Earth also makes fabulous Gummi Bears — they have great gummy bear flavor and texture without the allergens. All are organic, vegan, and free of nuts, soy, wheat, eggs, peanuts, gluten, dairy, corn syrup, and artificial flavors. They come in snack pack sizes for handing out at school.
