SitOrSquat Restroom Finder App Review

Sometimes you just need to find a bathroom fast. Luckily modern technology has made the process much easier. Apps have come available that allow you to use your smartphone or other mobile devices to quickly find a nearby public restroom.

The SitOrSquat: Restroom Finder app is one such app — and it is free! The app is available through the App Store or through Google Play.

The app takes advantage of a large online database of public toilet locations. It's owned by Proctor & Gamble's Charmin.

One downside to the app is that it requires you to "log in" with either your Facebook or Twitter account to use many of its features. This log-in includes giving permission for there to be communication between these social media sites and Charmin. If you try to register online, you will be required to link to your Facebook account to proceed any further. I was not willing to make these connections and so this review is based only on the basic functionality afforded without logging in.

How SitOrSquat Works

The app is super-easy to use as it mostly consists of a map with pins to indicate bathrooms that are close to your location.

The pins each hold a picture of a roll of toilet paper (Charmin, remember?) in either green or red. A green roll indicates a restroom that is considered to be clean enough to "Sit" on, while a red marker indicates that the restroom is not as clean as you would like, hence you will need to "Squat."

Once you click on the location, you will be given a link for directions. If you are logged in, you can look at photos of the bathroom if they are available.

Being logged in also allows you to add a bathroom, upload photos and/ or rate a bathroom.

Additional SitOrSquat Features

The app allows you to filter for the following things:

  • Free access
  • Handicap accessibility
  • Baby changing table availability
  • "Sits" only

Is This App for You?

It is a shame that the app comes with such restrictions unless you're logged in. If you are comfortable with the log-in requirements than you might find this app to be very helpful for finding a restroom quickly.
