There is never a bad time to celebrate beating cancer. In fact, you probably do it every single day when you wake up in the morning and express gratitude for the life you have been given. However, there are some days, such as National Cancer Survivors Day or your "cancer-versary, where you should really make it a point to let loose and celebrate being a cancer survivor. After all, you earned it.

But celebrating your survivorship doesn't necessarily mean you have to have a full-blown celebration. However you choose to celebrate is a personal decision, but there are  a number of things you can do to honor your journey that might have never crossed your mind. Here are 20:

  1. Plant a tree.
  2. Get your hair done. There may have been a day when you didn’t have any!
  3. Throw a party or get a friend to host one.
  4. Take a hike. Be present. Stop to smell your surroundings.
  5. Join a group that connects cancer patients. Maybe you can encourage someone who is going through what you conquered.
  6. Write about your experience on a blog or in a journal. You could even start a book about your journey.
  7. Do something that scares you. Sing in public, go on a rollercoaster, step in the mud with no shoes on, pet a tarantula... You get the gist.
  8. Try a new food or activity.
  9. Organize a blood or bone marrow donor recruitment drive.
  10. Write a thank you letter to someone who made a difference to you on your journey.
  11. Start a charm bracelet with charms that commemorate your journey.
  12. Get a tattoo that commemorates your strength.
  13. Go outside and breathe in the air.
  14. Plan a dream vacation.
  15. Join a fundraiser like Light the Night or the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
  16. Make two lists. The first is a list of all the things you regret or feel guilty about in your life. The second is all the things you are grateful for in your life. Burn the first one and put the second one under your pillow.
  1. Express yourself and your experience by painting or drawing.
  2. Spend the day with the person or people you love most.
  3. Do an activity that brings awareness to your body. Take a gentle yoga class or get a massage.
  4. Put on some music and dance by yourself or with a partner.

You're lucky. Not only because you beat cancer, but because most people never get to appreciate life the same way a cancer survivor does. If you've battled cancer, you understand just how precious every day is, so take a day or a month to really celebrate the joys of being a cancer survivor.
